Sistema Congressi is partner of the preliminary bid presented by the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padua to host the 2025 edition of the prestigious ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval.
SIGIR, Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval, is an association that focuses on all aspects of information storage, retrieval, and dissemination.
The annual conference - with an average of 1500 participants - is held in Asia and Australia, the Americas and Europe in rotation.
The preliminary application bid was presented in Barcelona on July 14, 2022.

Sistema Congressi, as partner of the bid, was responsible for the development of the preliminary analysis, the implementation of a website dedicated to the bid and the production of a video starring Professors Nicola Ferro, Giorgio di Nunzio, Gianmaria Silvello, and Gabriella Pasi, together with the Italian information retrieval community represented by the Intelligent Interactive Information Access Hub.
Padua for large international congresses
Among the many strengths of the candidacy, the new Padova Congress now allows Padua to finally place itself as one of the big players among the destinations for large international conferences.
Padova Congress is in fact a contemporary and flexible venue, a true gem designed by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.
The congress center can host events for up to 3,334 people and it is located a short walk from the historic center of Padua.
The two main rooms are the Sala Giotto with 1,565 seats, a huge 4k ledwall of 152 square meters and two screens of almost 13 square meters each, and the Sala Mantegna with 988 seats and the special perfume diffusers able to enhance the experience of each event with an olfactory branding.
In addition to the main congress rooms, the venue also has public areas suitable for hosting exhibitions, food and beverage, poster sessions.
At a short distance from Padova Congress there are 4-star hotel facilities for a total of over 500 rooms in addition to another 100 rooms located in a nearby 3-star hotel.

Padua is an ideal destination for organizing scientific conferences as it is a destination with the necessary facilities, and it has always been a city with a scientific vocation.
The video produced by Sistema Congressi on purpose for the bidding process shows some of the places most closely related to scientific discovery, measurement and study: the Botanical Garden, the Palazzo della Ragione, the Specola and the Astronomical Observatory, the Sala dei Quaranta inside the University of Padua.
