This course aims to address the practical aspects of osteoporosis, seeking to concretely highlight the most critical points in the diagnostic and therapeutic process for patients with bone fragility. The primary goal is to establish as standardized pathways as possible, according to EBM concepts, and to simplify the approach to patients with bone fragility. The theoretical portion will focus on clearly defining some aspects that are still debated in the scientific community and that can sometimes be a source of confusion and poor patient management. Among these topics, the concept of fracture risk will be emphasized, the comprehensive and integrated clinical-instrumental assessment of which must form the basis for appropriate therapeutic approaches. Special attention will then be given to exploring some concepts of the pathophysiology of phosphate-calcium metabolism, which are essential for understanding the different laboratory patterns in relation to various skeletal pathologies. Alongside this assessment, the concept of therapeutic efficacy will be examined and a review of the diversity of treatments currently available will be proposed.
However, the course aims to translate these theoretical concepts into everyday clinical practice. Interactive sessions will therefore be organized to analyze in detail the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the disease through the presentation of explanatory clinical cases.
